Production Halted at Victoria Gold following Landslide

, ,

A significant slide at the heap leach pad of Victoria Gold’s Eagle mine in central Yukon has led to a temporary halt in operations. The slide, which caused damage to infrastructure and allowed some material to escape containment, fortunately resulted in no injuries. The incident was reported to the Na-Cho Nyäk Dun First Nation, whose traditional territory the mine is on, and the Yukon government. Investigations by natural resources officers and the Yukon Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board are ongoing. The heap leach facility, which processes about a million tonnes of ore monthly using a cyanide solution, is a key economic contributor to the local communities. In response to the slide, environmental monitors from the Na-Cho Nyäk Dun First Nation are on-site to assess the impact. Additionally, the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization has halted trading of Victoria Gold Corp. shares.
